Recovered Users Network Meeting in Belgium

RUN members from all across Europe met in Brussels, Belgium to discuss joint actions. The meeting took place on 11th December 2014 at Norway House.

RUN members from Ireland, UK, Italy, Russia, Turkey, Poland, The Netherlands, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Sweden and Norway met to discuss next steps of the Recovered Users Network.

Boro Goic, Chair of RUN, formally opened the meeting and welcomed all delegates. He presented the history and activities of RUN to date and noted the importance of bridging the practical and political levels of RUN, in terms of sharing experiences of recovery organisations and in politically being a voice for recovered users.

Discussed in the morning session was an update of the recovery research project which RUN are currently undertaking with Durham University. Fay Watson, Secretary General of EURAD, presented the research findings up to date and highlighted that the follow-up actions such as publication and dissemination needed to be identified. Boro highlighted the need for additional research capacity to complete all stages of the research project.

It was decided that the following side-event would be submitted by San Patrignano for the CND 2015 which would take place sometime between the 9th – 17th March 2015:

  • Event which would demonstrate testimonial story, recovery research and an example of a country who changed their drug policy to be more orientated towards recovery (UK)

The afternoon segment included the proposed election of RUN country coordinators to help support the expanding of RUN.
