25th ECAD Mayors’ Conference and the 6th World Forum Against Drugs took place jointly on May 14-15 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Gothenburg event was a joint project between World Federation Against Drugs, European Cities Against Drug and the Swedish National Movement Against Drugs, hosted by the City of Gothenburg. It consisted of three conferences in one and went in-depth on the best practices and strategies for implementing the updated international standards for prevention.
The conference was, among other, focused on the following areas:
- recovery as a goal of treatment,
- how the criminal justice system can work with providers of treatment and other services for drug users,
- importance of having a gender perspective in treatment services.
Chair of RUN, Boro Goic was one of the speakers on the session on Recovery ready communities. This session elaborated around what is necessary in society to enable recovery from substance use disorder and associated high-risk behaviors and what it will take to make our communities recovery-ready.
